Men joke about this all the time, but as much as I hate to admit it, it's true. We really DO try to "fix" them. But we're not trying to pussywhip them, contrary to popular belief. At least, I know I'm not. Usually, on the occasions when I've tried to "fix" a boyfriend, it was because he was really exceedingly miserable and I was trying my utmost to make him happier, whatever way I could. As to whether or not I was refusing to admit I was wrong... that wasn't how it was for me. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, told me to get away from this guy, and in my rational moments, I agreed with them. Unfortunately, I was head over heels in love with him, and just couldn't seem to walk away.
Ah, well. It's all over now, and I'm feeling muuuuuuuuch better these days. ;-)
You're right - screw the fairy tale - frogs are frogs. A great deal of the time, Prince Charming is STILL a frog. I can't speak for anyone else, but I no longer want the great American romance, and I no longer want to be treated as chattel. A happy medium would be REALLY nice.
